Antique Victorian Amethyst "Ladder of Virtues" Fob – Symbolic, Sentimental, Rare

A truly exceptional and scarce example of 19th-century sentimental jewelry, this Victorian-era fob is a breathtaking piece of symbolic craftsmanship. Featuring a richly colored royal purple amethyst, this fob is both ornamental and profoundly meaningful—designed in the form of a ladder of virtues, each step inscribed with a timeless value in French.

At the top, framed delicately within a heart, is the word “Éternité” (Eternity), symbolizing enduring love or eternal connection. Descending the ladder are eight carefully engraved virtues:

• Constance (Constancy)

• Tendresse (Tenderness)

• Souvenance (Remembrance)

• Espérance (Hope)

• Amour (Love)

• Épreuve (Trial/Test)

• Préférence (Preference)

• Connaissance (Awareness/Understanding)

Each word was chosen with intent, forming a deeply emotional journey—from enduring love and gentle care, to remembrance and hope, to trials, choices, and ultimately a profound awareness. These are not just virtues of the Victorian age—they are values that still resonate today.

Crafted with exceptional detail, the ladder motif is symbolic of spiritual or emotional ascension, and its architectural precision reflects the superior workmanship typical of the period.
