A stunning Civil War era brooch/pendant. The acorn was a popular motif in the Victorian era that conveyed longevity and renewal. Here we see acorns and acorn leaves wrapping around a swiveling photo locket featuring a young lady and a gentleman, taken by Ramsay's (Late Dewars) American Portrait Gallery, Corner of Union and Argyle Streets, Glasgow. It is not clear what sets this Scottish studio apart as an "American" portrait gallery, but it does have an interesting backmark depicting a flag-bearing Union Civil War soldier holding a laurel wreath. A beautiful and sentimental piece that, even after 160 years, can still be worn and loved. The lockets can easily be taken apart and are removable for a drawing, hair from a pet, or a new photo of a loved one you want to keep by your side. I have also included two original artworks (by yours truly) to get you started on your what's old is new again journey.
