Montrose agate is a type of blue-grey banded agate found along the east coast of Scotland, particularly in the Montrose area. It is a cryptocrystalline quartz characterized by its striking, often wave-like, striated grey and white bands. This agate was famously used in Victorian and Edwardian Scottish pebble jewelry, where it was set into sterling silver.

An amazing example of Scottish Victorian era jewelry, this Montrose agate brooch is surprisingly versatile and ready to adorn purses, scarves, sweaters, or a lapel.
